Date Night, Home-Style

Just like everyone else, Matt and I love having date nights out. We enjoy going to dinner and a movie. We love going on short trips to explore. We like going to football games for our favorite teams. If we were in the South, we'd still make it to the shooting range for a date night here and there. It's a little trickier in this area, so it hasn't happened yet.

A new love is date nights in. We talked a while back about having game night once a week. We want to learn to play chess. We have a Wii. We like a good game of Phase 10. Though we've had a couple of game nights, it's not taken off. We have had movie nights with our Netflix and football dates to watch K-State (though we recently watched the BCS Championship without being fans of either team). Occasionally we catch snippets of a Ravens game.

The area we differ in taste most is with our preferences for entertainment. We both like T.V. and the movies. He likes what I call "stupid humor" and I...don't. It's my least favorite genre. We're talking Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey and Will Ferrell. I like action movies, even ones that are unrealistically over the top and he...doesn't. I like dramatic television shows; he likes comedy. Is it that big of a deal that we have different preferences? No. Not at all.

Fortunately, we do have some common ground in this area. The neat thing for me is that my husband has routinely planned on us having date nights at home where we watch episodes of 24 together. :) Forgetting that I'd only bought the first season on DVD, it was a rude awakening to rummage through my stockpile for season two and come up empty. Matt took note and bought me this for Christmas:

What a sweet, thoughtful and encouraging gift. He wants more date nights with me watching 24!

Christmas Treasures

Growing up we had a star for our tree topper. Though I have never been crazy about decorating for the holidays, the value of it has been growing on me. Our tree just came down yesterday. :)

Last year, I bought ornaments and ribbon for the tree, a tree skirt, garland, stockings and a few other things. I even made a wreath for our front door. What I couldn't find was a star tree topper. Though I didn't have much I wanted to add to our decorations this year (I'm a minimalist at heart), I knew I wanted to find a star topper.

This is what our tree looked like this year:

I LOVE the star!

Warm and Cozy

One of my habits is that I love to wear socks around the house. Shoes indoors, not at all. Needless to say, I have worn through the heels of many pairs of socks over the years, but I just can't seem to get into wearing slippers, house shoes or even flip flops around the house. I even have pairs of warm and fuzzy socks that I like, but they twist around on my feet.

While shopping before Christmas with Matt and his mom, we made a last, quick stop at Walgreens. There's a nice new one a stone's throw from our house. While there, I found these:

The appeal is that they are warm, sock-like and have rubber no-skid pieces all over the bottom. It was worth a try, right? So far, I LOVE them. They don't even twist on my foot. :)

When I told Matt he could buy me more as a little treat here or there when he's in the mood, his response was "Let's see how these hold up first." He may not be a fan, but I am!!!
