Happy New Year!

For the last two years, we spent New Year's Eve with a group of friends who came over to Matt's house to celebrate with us. Two years ago was more formal and we ate a nice dinner together. Last year was a casual hang out night.

We reminisced and thought about our friends, so far away, as we drove to Annapolis to celebrate this year, just the two of us. Not being used to going out on NYE, we didn't plan ahead. It worked out well this time, but we'll know better for next year.

When we called for reservations at a couple of places we knew we'd enjoy, they were booked of course. (I was hoping for a recent cancellation :) When we called a place we'd never been before, our timing was just right to pick up a reservation someone had canceled for 7:30 p.m.

We were attracted to the restaurant because we saw on their website that Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives had made a visit. The setting of the Irish restaurant was nice, but they were packed. I had the crab cakes, which were excellent. Matt had the peppercorn steak, which sounded wonderful, until they ran out of the special sauce. It seems the manager and staff were not prepared for this size crowd.

Nonetheless, we enjoyed our experience. After dinner, we had just enough time to make it to the movie theater.

Here's a self-shot photo just before the movie began:

We rang in the New Year in the theater as we watched the last few minutes of the movie. The movie was great. The right amount of mystery, intrigue and depth of plot to keep Matt and my interest going to the end.

Happy New Year!
